Shoals Youth Bassmasters Kickoff 2026 On Wheeler Lake

Sixty-six youth anglers competed in the first Shoals Youth Bassmasters tournament of the 2026 season on Wheeler Lake on May 23.

The youth anglers arrived bright and early at the First Creek Ramp on Wheeler, ready for a day of fishing action. Forecast rain held off for the day, giving the youth and their boat captains an overcast sky to fish under. Club director Richard Laxson said the day ended with lots of bass being brought to the scales at the 11 A.M. weigh-in. Laxson also said, “Thanks to all our sponsors. Thanks to everyone who works to make this possible.”

Beck Weaver took first place in the 10 and Under Age Division, weighing in at 7.57 pounds. The 11 to 15 Age Division first-place trophy winner, Jacob Weir, topped that age group with 8.38 pounds. First place was 6.06 lbs. brought to the scales by Conner Lee in the 16 to 18 Age Division. James Thompson, fishing in the 11 to 15 Age Division, took big fish honors for the event with a 4-pound largemouth.

Tournaments will begin at 7:00 A.M., and weigh-in will be at 11:00 A.M.

There are three divisions:

1. 10 and Under

2. 11 through. 15

3. 16 through. 18

Anglers in each division must have a responsible adult advisor. The year-end picnic will be held after the last tournament. You must be a member before the August 29 tournament.
