A look back with Charlie Brewer, Sr.

In the 70s we had a TV fishing show, “Southern Fishing”. That was how all the Southern Fishing websites, newspaper, and email news began before the new age of social pages et. al. came around (desktop and laptop computers as well).

The TV show gave us the opportunity to meet some great people and learn a lot more about fishing.

One such person was the late Charlie Brewer, Sr,, founder of Slider Lures. Charlie took us fishing on Smith Lake in north-central Alabama and demonstrated what “finesse” fishing was all about-limber, five-foot rods, four-pound line, and 1/16th oz. Slider Heads rigged with his Slider 4-inch worm.

As was our custom, the filming/taping was done on the water and the guest for that show came to the television studio for the recording of the full thirty minutes. Charlie came down from Lawrenceburg, TN and narrated what was going on in the trip film.

This was the beginning of a relationship with Slider Lures that continues to this day.

The photo shows Charlie and me on the set of Southern Fishing during the taping in front of the “blue screen” used to add images behind us in the control room.
