College angler killed in boating accident

B.A.S.S. mourns death of WKU angler Johnathan Brian

Two boats were involved in an incident on January 25, 2024, resulting in the death of one boater and injuries to three other fishermen.

 

The accident occurred during the practice round for the Bassmaster College Series event on Lake Murray where 244 boats were registered to compete.

Of the four anglers involved, two of the three injured that went to the hospital have been released.

Authorities have since confirmed the death of Western Kentucky angler Johnathan Brian.

“We are all heartbroken to learn the news of Johnathan’s tragic death,” said B.A.S.S. CEO Chase Anderson.

“Our hearts go out to Johnathan’s family, friends, and college fishing community,” Anderson said, “and we continue to offer our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Johnathan’s family and loved ones while respecting their privacy during this painful time.”

B.A.S.S. continues to gather information on the incident and remains in contact with local authorities.
