There is a brand new youth angler bass fishing trail that has incorporated an interesting twist for participants.
The “twist” incorporated into the new Bass Tactix Youth Trail is a rule allowing boat captains to fish in a concurrent
tournament of their own. No longer will boat captains have to suffer thru a long tournament day without
being able to wet a line.
Shane Mansell, Director of the Alabama Division said, “The Bass Tactix Youth/High School trail offers a new
innovation to high school angler tournaments. We call this ‘high school tournament fishing with a twist.’ That
twist is incorporating a boat captain tournament that runs separately but alongside the high school angler competition.”
Mansell added, “I get asked all the time why I decided to devote the time required of a Bass Tactix state director.
The answer is simple. I have a passion to see these students out on the water doing what they love and enjoying
the outdoors. Also, while most consider the trail as a “high school trail”, the actual organization is a youth program.”
The Alabama Division will fish four tournaments beginning October 8 of this year on Guntersville Lake, plus the state championship0n Wheeler Lake, and concluding on June 9 thru 10, 2023 with the national championship
on Pickwick Lake.
Here are the highlights of the new tournament trail:
– Age range for the young participants is Kindergarten thru 12th grade
– Membership in Bass Tactix Alabama & TBF/SAF required (for Alabama Division)
– Entry fee of $80 per team (2 anglers) per tournament
– $40 for each boat captain per tournament that participates in the tournament
– Each boat/team must choose at least three lakes to fish on the trail
– Fishing 3 lakes qualifies the team for the State Championship
– Contestants have the opportunity to advance to the Bass Tactix Nationals
