Pickwick Trophy Winner Weight Was 81.48 Pounds of Bass

The Shoals Youth Bassmasters fished Pickwick for their final tournament of the 2024 season. Forty-eight young bass anglers and their adult boat captains departed from McFarland ramp in their quest to land the first-place spot in one of the three age divisions.

Longtime club director Richard Laxson noted that the weather was comfortable during most of the day. Laxson said, “The weather was nice up until weigh-in when the heat returned. Fishing was good, with some good limits and large fish caught.” He also pointed out that the Pickwick tournament marked the end of the club’s 2024 season with a picnic and award presentations.

Here’s the first-place trophy winner in each age division: In the 10 and Under Age Division, Kane Goodwin nailed down the honor with a 14.43 lb. bag. Devin Deaton took the top spot in the 11 to 15 Age Division with 12.36 lbs. Rounding out the list was Preston Nale with a total of 2.11 lbs. in the 16 to 18 Age Division. Overall big fish honors went to Parker Posey for his big 5.41-pound largemouth.

Age division trophy winner pounds were: 10 and under, 41.06 lbs.; 11 to 15, 38.31 lbs.; 16 to 18, 2.11 lbs. The total trophy weight was 81.48 lbs.

11 to 15 Age
1st Place Devin Deaton 12.36 lbs.
2nd Place Brody Austin 10.47 lbs.
3rd Place Conner Kyle 8.50 lbs.
4th Place Parker Posy 6.98 lbs. and Big Fish 5.41 pound largemouth

16 to 18 Age
1st Place Preston Nale 2.11 lbs.

 

As is customary, several season awards were presented. The big largemouth for the year trophy went to Carson Rumbaugh for his 6.13 lb. hawg. Devin Deaton took big smallmouth for the year with a 5.00 lb. smallie—two good fish. Each received a $50.00 gift card from Shoals Outdoor Sports.

Two youth anglers who are now 18, and fished with the Shoals Youth Bassmasters for several years, each received a nice Duckett spinning rod. Brandon Atkins and Cayden Turner finished their age eligibility with the 2024 season.

Angler Of The Year trophies and awards were also presented. Angler of The Year in each age division is determined by the total weight for each of the tournaments fished.

10 and Under
Angler Of the Year, Kane Goodwin with a total of 35.98 lbs.
Runner up, Brody Bennett with 33.02 lbs.

11 to 15 Age
Angler Of the Year, Conner Kyle with a total of 52.03 lbs.
Runner up, Levi Hicks with 44.19 lbs.

16 to 18 Age
Angler Of the Year, Brandon Atkins with a total of 9.28 lbs.
Runner up, Preston Nalefor 8.00 lbs.

Angler Of the Year honors received a plaque, a $50.00 Bass Pro Shop gift card, and a custom-made rod from Up Toast Custom Rods. Plaques were from Com Pu Tec Signs. Runner-up anglers received a $50.00 gift card from Shoals Outdoor Sports.

Richard Laxson closed the event saying, “2024 was a very good year. The time went fast. Participation was down a little, but it was a good year, with good people, good sponsorship and great kids to be with.
