Poss wins AFT on Pickwick

Andy Poss, Muscle Shoals, AL, is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with a 1st place win and $360.00 in the American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Pickwick Lake March 18th.

Poss`s five bass limit weighed in at 21.86 pounds. Second place went to Darrin McCullar with a weight of 19.87; Third place was Darrell Miller with a weight of 17.40. Big bass was awarded was to Tyler Weeks for a 5.58 pound smallmouth.

The top five anglers were:

1. Andy Poss – 21.86
2. Darrin McCullar – 19.87
3. Darrell Miller – 17.40
4. Tyler Weeks – 15.45
5. Austin Weaver – 10.74

Conditions: 56 degrees and clear at takeoff with highs in the mid 80’s. Beautiful day to be on the water. One problem, TVA decided to drop the bottom out of Pickwick overnight. The lake dropped four feet. Many people saying it was just too dangerous to go upriver. The ones that did make the venture made it payoff.

Winning Strategy: Andy Poss said he caught a couple good fish on a Carolina rig down river, then he came back upriver later in the morning and caught good sized smallmouth and largemouth on the Alabama Rig. Darrin McCullar says he caught fish on the Alabama Rig and a jerkbaits. From others, baits that worked were hair jigs and grubs.
