Renovation of Beeswax Public Boat Ramp on Lay Lake to be Suspended from March to June

Due to significant construction delays, the renovation of Beeswax Public Boat Ramp on Lay Lake that began July 2013 will be suspended from March 2014 through June 2014 to avoid conflicts with previously scheduled bass tournaments. The renovation will resume on July 1 and is expected to be completed by the end of August 2014.

Modifications to bring the entire facility into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) require that a portion of the existing parking lot be removed and re-graded to meet the ADA slope requirements. Current construction of the new launching slab will continue through early March. Once the new launching slab is complete, it will be prepared for temporary use and remain open to the public until work resumes on July 1.

“This work will affect a large portion of the parking area and disrupt the normal flow of traffic,” said Damon Abernethy, Fisheries Development Coordinator for the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF). “Because of that we made a decision to delay this portion of the project until after the peak fishing season is over. However, some portions of the project such as the addition of a courtesy pier and ADA-compliant access routes may be completed during spring without any significant impacts to the use of the facility.”
