Shoals Youth Angler Winners Bring In Over One Hundred Pounds Of Bass

The Shoals Youth Bassmasters, a Northwest Alabama youth club, fished their second tournament of 2023 on a cooperative Wilson Lake out of the Lock Six ramp on June 10. Fifty-eight young anglers brought bags of bass to the scales at 11:00 AM.

Club director Richard Laxson said, “The weather was a little cool at start time but warmed up as the day went on. The kids really did well as the number of bass weighed-in shows.”

Trophy winners weighed in a total of 109.72 pounds of largemouth and smallmouth bass. Bo Hemmen, from the 10 and under age division, brought a monster 5.23-pound smallmouth that was the big fish of the tournament. First place trophy winners in the three age divisions were: Bo Hemmen with14.14 lbs., 10 and under: Brody Austinhad 9.43 lbs. in the 11 to 15 division; and Spence Lovett,16 to 18 age group, 12.85 lbs. pounds.

The Shoals Youth Bassmasters’ next tournament on the schedule is July 8 on Pickwick Lake out of McFarland Park ramp.

Tournaments will begin at 7 AM and weigh-in is 11 AM for the three divisions: 10 and Under; 11 thru 15; and 16 thru 18. Youth anglers must have a responsible adult advisor in the boat at all times. The year-end picnic and awards presentations will be held after the September 16th tournament. Youth anglers MUST be a member of Shoals Youth Bassmasters prior to the September 16th tournament.
