Sixty-five young anglers in the Shoals Youth Bassmasters fished a very hot and very humid club tournament Saturday. Boat captains and their youth competitors launched out of First Creek ramp to try to capture a win on Wheeler Lake. Fishing was indeed tough and the muggy air with overcast skies did not help the angler’s morale any. However, some good fish were weighed in.
The two younger age groups put it to the older age group. The 10 and Under Age Group had a total of
23.25 pounds. Eleven to Fifteen Age club members brought in 32.25 pounds. The older Sixteen to Eighteen anglers showed up at the scale with 15.1875 pounds. However, the older group was fishing with fewer bass chasers than the other two groups.
Hats off to these young, rugged club members (and their boat captains) for struggling with the heat and humidity. Most of us would not even get out of air conditioning long enough to walk to the mail box on a day like that Saturday.
