Wow! With the weights brought in by these young bassmasters I’m gonna be asking for a guided trip. The three age Divisions of the Shoals Youth Bassmasters had slab bags taking first place.
The club fished Pickwick Lake on August 1. Richard Laxson, club director, said 42 youth competed in this their fourth club tournament.
August 1st, 42 young anglers fished Pickwick Lake out of Colbert Park. The morning started with very comfortable temperatures. At the 11 AM weigh-in the temperatures was already rising and wind had begun to roughen-up the lake.
Laxson noted heavy grass was matted the water which shortening the trolling motor’s battery life. Geese stayed out in the water by the grass keeping the anglers company. Laxson said that was a good thing.
The only potential problem came up when a park ranger cruised by and noted there was a tournament going on. The park ranger informed the club director a permit is required for fishing tournaments Ranger “eagle eye” was there looking for that permit. Having pity on the young anglers the Ranger did not start writing but told Laxson to check with the Tupelo office next year. Clubs, you have been warned.
