Shoals Youth Bassmasters on Wilson Lake

Shoals Youth Bassmasters Director Richard Laxson reported the club had another great tournament on Wilson Lake out of Fleet Harbor in June. Seventy anglers launched at 6 AM at for catching five fish by 11 AM. Each boat had at least one adult onboard to drive, supervise and help out in general including handing out the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as required for  some. Even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches sometimes are no solution. So for those kids to stay out there for four hours is a tribute to their dedication… and/or their adult boat captain’s patience, or simple love of fishing.

The club also had the first day of their annual food drive project and collected a good amount of donated items. They will again be collecting food at their Elk River and Lock Six tournaments.

Here is the final results of the three age divisions:

10 and under:
1st Place: Hunter Brewer – 15 lbs. 12 oz.
2nd Place: Hayden Brewer  – 14 lbs. 6 oz.
3rd Place: Hayden Smith – 14 lbs. 3 oz.

The end of the tournament year for the club is August 25th on Pickwick Lake out of Florence Harbor at McFarland Park. Southern Fishing News plans to be onsite. There will be a picnic for the 121 members of the club after the tournament where the youth will not only enjoy good eats but fishing gift bags as well for members that joined prior to the last event.

Laxson said the club is forming teams to participate in the B.A.S.S. Junior State Championship on Lake Neely Henry September 15th 2013.
