Seventy-six youth bass anglers in the Shoals Youth Bassmasters in North Alabama hit the waters of Wilson Lake for the second tournament of 2017.
Cool air from a recent frontal passage was draped over the lake at the tournament’s seven AM launch time. The air was cool enough to encouraging the contestants to don jackets and warmer rain suits to cover shorts and T-shirts. However, the temps recovered fairly quickly transitioning into a hot and a tad muggy day.
The shifty temperatures had no effect on the bass judging from what the youths brought in at 11:00. The top places in the three age divisions weighed-in a whopping 130.375 pounds of bass. The heaviest bag in all age groups was brought in by 10 and Under Age Group angler Hayden Smith the catch weighing 17 lbs. 12 oz. Big fish of the event went to Payton Davidson for his 5 lb. 3 oz. largemouth.
The trophy places in the the age groups were:
10 and Under Age Group
1st Place: Hayden Smith, 17 lbs. 12 oz.
2nd Place: Payton Davidson, 15 lbs. 1 oz.
3rd Place: Hayden Brewer, 12 lbs. 3 oz.
4th Place: Sean Parker Willingham, 11 lbs. 14 oz.
11-15 Age Group
1st Place: Ty Cobb, 14 lbs. 1 oz.
2nd Place: Hunter Brewer, 12 lbs. 7 oz.
3rd Place: Storme Alexander, 11 lbs. 4 oz.
4th Place: Jack Gilbreath, 10 lbs. 11 oz.
16-18 Age Group
1st Place: Clayton Birdyshaw, 12 lbs. 3 oz.
2nd Place: Logan Peden, 6 lbs. 8 oz.
3rd Place: Jacob Davis, 6 lbs. 6 oz.

The 2017 Shoals Youth Bassmasters already have 102 members with only two tournaments fished.

Sept 9 McFarland Ramp – Pickwick (picnic, awards and gifts)
Tournaments begin at 7:00 A.M. and weigh-in is 11:00 A.M.
Anglers in each division have a responsible adult advisor in the boat. The year-end picnic will be held after the last tournament on September 9. Youth must be a member before the last tournament to be eligible to participate in the picnic event.
