The Shoals Youth Bassmasters (SYBM), Northwest Alabama fished the first of their six tournaments in the 2019 season. The event was held May 18 on Wheeler Lake in North Alabama out of the First Creek ramp.
The youth club Director, Richard Laxson, reported seventy-one club members fished the event on Wheeler. Laxson said, “Boy, the temperature and sun were hot and so was our youth anglers. The 10 and Under group winners brought in 40.5 pounds of bass. Our 11 to 15 age group placers weighed-in thirty-seven pounds. And our oldest age group, the 16 to 18-year-olds weighed-in twenty-eight pounds boated by the top three winners.”
Peyton Davidson, fishing in the 10 and Under age group took first place in that group who’s total weight was helped along with a 4.3-pound largemouth that took big fish honors. Castin Smit placed first in the 11 to 15 group with 9 lbs 13 oz. First place in the 16 to 18 age group went to Hunter Inabnitt with 9 lbs 10 oz.

10 and Under Age Group:
1st Place – Payton Davidson, 10 lbs. 11 oz.
2nd Place – Hayden Brewer, 10 lbs. 8 oz.
3rd Place – Kane Goodwin; 10 lbs. 3 oz.
4th Place = Tate Dodd, 9 lbs. 5 oz.
11 to 15 Age Group:
1st Place – Castin Smit, 9 lbs. 13 oz.
2nd Place – Mattie Holland, 9 lbs. 6 oz.
3rd Place – Camden Randall, 9 lbs. 4 oz.
4th Place – Jack Irby, 8 lbs. 9 oz.
16 to 18 Age Group:
1st Place – Hunter Inabnitt, 9 lbs. 10 oz.
2nd Place – Katelyn Perry, 9 lbs. 5 oz.
3rd Place – Hannah Fleeman, 9 lbs. 1 oz.
Lunker – Peyton Davidson, 4 lb. 3 oz. largemouth
The next club tournament is June 8 on Wilson Lake in North Alabama out of Fleet Harbor. All club tournaments are 7 A.M. to 11 A.M.
Anglers in each division must have a responsible adult advisor running the boat and assisting a young fisherman if required.
The year-end picnic will be held after the last tournament. Youths must be a member of the Shoals Youth Bassmasters before the last tournament to be eligible for the lunch, and awards provided at the club’s year-end event.
