The Shoals Youth Bassmasters held their June 20th club tournament on Wilson Lake, northwest Alabama, out of Fleet Harbor.
Richard Laxson, Director of the Shoals Youth Bassmasters, said, “We had a group of fifty-two young anglers from all three age divisions fish in the club tournament.” Laxson reported the weather was hot and windy challenging the endurance and patience of the contestants. Laxson said the overcast skies gave way to bright sun and white capping waves on the lake.
The uncomfortable conditions did not seem to interfere with the bass fishing. A big fish weighing-in at 4 lbs. 12 oz. was brought in by three club members resulting in a three-way tie for lunker honors.
The first place weights also indicated some good fishing was to be had. First place weights in each age division were 19 lbs., 15 lbs. 11 oz. and 11 lbs. 3 oz. Remember, the tournament hours only run from 7 AM to 11 AM. Taking the hours into account shows some good fishing was going on. The weights following first place in two of the age divisions indicated the bass were biting.
The three age division results:
Ages 10 and Under:
1st Place: Hayden Smith-19 lbs.
2nd Place: Castin Smith-16 lbs. 3 oz.
3rd Place: Hunter Brewer-10 lbs. 13 oz.

Richard Laxon and his crew do a fine job of providing our young anglers with fun and competition. Looking at some of the results of this event indicates these anglers can compete with the adult crowd I know.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK RICHARD!
