The youth anglers fishing the Shoals Youth Bassmasters club tournament August 25 on Wilson Lake finally got a little cooperation from Mother Nature. Overcast skies and a breeze made fishing a lot more comfortable than some of the previous club competitions. The Wilson tournament was the fifth club competition of their 2018 season.
Maybe the “cooler” fishing day pleased the bass in Wilson Lake as well. The eleven individual winners in the three club age divisions tallied a total of 75.125 lbs.
Austin Gist had a solid big largemouth winner weighing 5 lbs. 14 oz. Fisher Heard also brought-in a nice 4 lb. 7 oz. largemouth.
Winners in the three age divisions were-Ten and Under: 1st Place, Cal Cannon; 2nd Place, Spencer Lovett; 3rd Place, Lane Williamson; and 4th Place, Hayden Brewer. The 10 and under winners had a total of 32.1875 lbs. Eleven to 15 Age Group: 1st Place, Austin Gist; 2nd Place, Fisher Heard; 3rd Place, Hayden Davis; and 4th Place, Tate Methvin. These age group winners brought 33.75 lbs. to the scales. There were three place winners in the 16 to 18 age group: 1st Place, Hunter Ratliff; 2nd Place, Hunter Patterson; and 3rd Place, Jared Sparks This older age group had a little more trouble finding a bigger catch on Wilson with a total of 9.1875 lbs.

4th Place: Tate Methvin 6 lbs.
16 to 18 Age Group
1st Place: Hunter Ratliff 4 lbs. 4 oz.
2nd Place: Hunter Patterson 2 lbs. 12 oz.
3rd Place: Jared Sparks 2 lbs. 3 oz.
Big Fish: Austin Gist with a 5 lbs. 14 oz. largemouth

Sept. 8 McFarland Ramp Pickwick (annual picnic and awards).
(NOTE: Youth must have become members prior to this tournament to attend and get an award).
The tournament begins at 7:00 A.M. and weigh-in is 11:00 A.M.
