Youth anglers bag three and four pounders on Wilson Lake

Several three and four-pound bass were brought to the scales at the end of the Shoals Youth Bassmasters’ third tournament of the year, July 10, 2021, on Wilson Lake.

Sixty-two club anglers from ten and under to eighteen years old hit the water with their adult companion to compete for trophies in each of the three age divisions.

Most all of the participating club members brought fish to the scales including the aforementioned three and four-pounders.

Lane Howell topped the 10 And Under age division for his bag that went 10 pounds and 7 ounces. In the 11 To 15 age division, it was Bree Odeneal who weighed the heaviest first place bag of 7 pounds and 15 ounces. Odeneal also took lunker honors for a 4 pound and 13-ounce largemouth. And in the 16 To 18 age division, Westley Hayes managed to win the top spot with 2 pounds and 6 ounces.

The weight total for each division’s trophy placers were: 32.375 pounds for the 10 And Under group; 27.938 pounds for the 11 To 15 division; and 2.875 for the 16 To 18 age anglers.

Richard Laxson, club director noted the day began under overcast skies and a little chop to the water. Laxson said, “ As ten o’clock rolled around the lake had larger waves accompanied with high humidity and much hotter than at the 7 AM launch.” He noted the club had some exciting youth anglers this year that results in some keen competition. He also expressed his and the club’s appreciation for the 2021 sponsors.
