Youth bass club fights wind on Wilson

Fifty-five Shoals Youth Bassmasters fished a windy Wilson Lake out of the Lock 6 ramp on August 29. This tournament was the second of the revised three 2020 tournament schedule.

Weather conditions were not ideal according to Richard Laxon the club’s director. Laxson said, “ Wilson Lake was windy with a chop on the water. Adding to this was overcast skies and a dropping water level, but some nice fish were weighed in.”

The top spots in the three age divisions weighed-in 54.875 pounds of bass with a 4.625-pound largemouth taking big fish honors. Cal Cannon took first place in the 10 and Under division with 6-14. First in 11 to 15 age group went to Sean Parker Willingham for an 8-5 bag. The 16 to 18 division anglers found their fishing a little tougher with Hunter Inabnitt and Miles Starkey at a stalemate for first with 3-14 each. Carlee Davidson took lunker honors with a 4-10 largemouth.

The 10 and Under winners (1st thru 4th place) weighed-in a total of 19.6875 pounds of green fish. The 11 to 15 age group winners had 24.3125 total. In the 16 to 18 division, the total of the three places was 11.125 pounds.

Richard Laxson wanted to thank all the club members and their boat captains for their participation and understanding for this year’s abbreviated season that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
