Shoals Youth Fish In Rough Conditions On Wilson Lake

The Shoals Youth Bassmasters fished Wilson Lake in less than optimal conditions on June 1 out of the Lock Six ramp.

Nineteen young anglers and their boat captains (adults) brave the tournament’s adverse conditions. The youth and their responsible adult boat captains launched into the rain, wind, white capping waves on the lake, and a cool temperature. Thankfully, there was no lightning during the tournament. The rain did stop at weigh-in time and with perfect timing began again after the bass were brought to the scales.

The boat captain makes all decisions about his/her operation of the boat including whether to launch and fish or not since the Shoals Youth Bassmasters responsibility is limited to contestant registration and the weigh-in. With this in mind, tournaments are not canceled sice the fish/no fish decision is made by the boat captains.

Regardless, the rain-soaked and wind-battered tournament contestants did manage to catch fish. The total weight of bass weighed in by the trophy winners in two age divisions totaled a very respectable 36.85 lbs. with one bag going 16.06 lbs. and another tipping the scales at 10.35 lbs.

Brody Bennett took the first place trophy in the 10 and Under age division with 16.06 lbs. and Levi Hicks won the first place trophy in the 11-15 Age Division with a bag going 14.45 lbs. Included in Levi’s bag was the tournament lunker winner, a 3.85 lb. largemouth.
