Nine Bass, 3.03‑lb. Average — A Consistent Day of Heavy Fish Worth The July Grind

The Alabama–Tennessee Bass Club hit Pickwick Lake on July 11, launching from the Waterloo ramp and finding the kind of steady, three‑limit bass that make summer tournaments worth the grind.

By weigh‑in, the top three teams had stacked some impressive Pickwick bags.

Jeff Kersteins and Hunter Brewer took the top spot with 13.79 lbs., a haul that pushed close to a 4.5‑lb. average per bass. Brandon Staggs and Channing Cope claimed second with 13.44 lbs., anchored by a strong 6.14‑lb. lunker. Rounding out the top three, JD Bedford and Zach Markus brought 12.94 lbs. to the scales for a solid third‑place finish.

The Alabama–Tennessee Bass Club is based in Lawrence County, Tennessee, drawing anglers from Lawrence and surrounding counties in southern middle Tennessee as well as northern Alabama. The club is 73 members strong, forming 40 teams that compete throughout the season.

The schedule features 10 regular monthly tournaments, running February through October. The tournament year wraps up on the second and third Saturdays in October, with results from both days paying out normally and combining for the club’s classic pot.

Events are held across the Tennessee River system — Wheeler, Wilson, Pickwick, and Kentucky Lakes — on a rotational basis. Lakes are selected by draw at the January meeting, and all four must be fished before returning to any one lake. Rather than competing against the angler in the boat, members fish as partners, taking on the rest of the field as a team.
