The Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail is bringing a one-day tournament to the River City next weekend and is expected to attract approximately 100 anglers from across the United States. Launching in 2003, the King Kat Trail is the largest catfish tournament organization in the United States.
The Cabela’s King Kat Tournament, hosted by the Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau, is set for March 19, 2016, at Ingalls Harbor located at 802 Wilson Street NW in Decatur. This is an opportunity for local catfish anglers to compete for cash, prizes and a chance to advance to the Cabela’s King Kat North and South Championship. This year’s North Championship will be held September 23-24, 2016, on the Ohio River at Henderson, Kentucky. The South Championship will be held September 29 and October 1, 2016, on Lake Cumberland (Old Hickory Lake) at Gallatin, Tennessee.
Launch time is set for 5 a.m. and tournament hours are 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. All anglers must be in weigh-in line by 4 p.m. at Ingalls Harbor.
A Kids Fishing Rodeo will be held in conjunction with the tournament. The activity is free for youth up to 12 years old. Each participant receives a prize and is entered to win one of six ($1,000) college scholarships drawn annually.
