Championship Week Begins!
The BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship, which is widely regarded as the event that catapulted collegiate bass fishing into the minds of fishing fans everywhere, is back again for its 9th time and the excitement has never been greater. College anglers have said time and time again that this is the most prestigious event in college fishing action and it will take place from the 19th of May thru the 23rd of May on Lake Pickwick and Lake Wilson in Florence, Alabama. The elite field of college anglers will be made up of over two-person anglers from schools all over the nation that have earned their way to compete for the BoatUS Collegiate Championship crown. Eighty-three universities will be represented.
The University of North Alabama will have three teams competing: Wesley Anderson and Cody Harrison; Jake Roberson and Evan Horne; Dawson Lent and Robb Young
These collegiate anglers will battle it out with past champions, new schools and even teams from Canada in what will be a grueling test of fishing. Past champions of the event include two time winner North Carolina State, Texas A&M, University of Arkansas, Murray State, University of Georgia, Bethel University and The University of Central Florida.
According to Wade Middleton, co-founder of the ACA and President of CarecoTV, “Every year the collegiate anglers and the Championship get better and better – it’s amazing to see the growth, not only in the size and importance of the event, but in the support from our partners. When we began this collegiate series nine years ago, we only hoped to achieve such a great following from anglers, sponsors, fishing communities, and the fishing industry alike,” Wade went on to say.
Chris Edmonston, President of the BoatUS Foundation, added, “Having been a partner in this event since the inception, we couldn’t be happier to see the continued growth and development of collegiate fishing. The BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship and collegiate bass fishing in general have been one of the most successful youth fishing initiatives in recent history and we’re honored to be a part of the progression.
This year’s event will feature a wide range of activities such as Yamaha Angler Appreciation night, Ranger Boats Demo Rides, dinners hosted by Costa and Temple Fork Outfitters. There will also be a collegiate angler appreciation banquet that will have over 20 companies from across the nation in attendance, all to be held at the Marriott Shoals Resort on Wednesday the 21st. The week long event will wrap up on Friday May 23rd with the crowning of the champion on Friday May 23rd. Fans of college fishing will be able to follow all the action online with live updates from the water at www.CollegiateBassChampionship.com as well as live streaming weigh-ins.
The 2014 Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Television Series will be televised on NBC Sports Outdoors, Pursuit Network, World Fishing Network and more to be announced!
