The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) shared several newsworthy items about fishing this week. 

A large fishing expo is being organized for 2026. It is called the Ultimate Fishing Expo and the dates are January 16th through 18th, 2026. This is an all-species expo.

Montevallo finishes in 1^st, UNA is ranked 2^nd, and Carson-Newman rounds out the Top 3

The University of Montevallo finished the year in the 2024-25 Bass Pro Shops School of the Year, presented by Abu Garcia, ranked number one, with a total of 40,575 points.

It’s safe to say that Kentucky Lake is back, or at least on a serious upswing. As many expected, Lowrance Stage 5 Presented by Mercury on Kentucky Lake and neighboring Lake Barkley turned into a ledge fishing bonanza with largemouth and smallmouth bass firmly in their summer patterns.
