The Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) Division was both enjoying the spotlight and working behind the curtains during last week’s 50th Bassmaster Classic weigh-in at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (BJCC).

Professional, collegiate and state-level bass fishing tournaments are being canceled, postponed and rescheduled due to the threat of Coronavirus infection. The Alabama B.A.S.S. Nation, Bassmaster, and Big Bass Bash have all released information regarding their individual tournament events.

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn.— The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has recovered the body of a missing boater from the Tennessee River. Search crews recovered the body of a John Doe around 4:30 p.m. this afternoon around Shiloh National Military Park on the Tennessee River. The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s office in Memphis for an autopsy and identification.

A Crappie USA Trail tournament on April 11 and a King Kat Trail tournament on April 18 will attract anglers from several states. Both tournaments are sponsored by Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau and will be based out of Riverfront Park in Sheffield.

Bruce Springsteen’s song, “Glory Days”, is about looking back to high school days when we played sports, were young, and looked better.
The song reminded me, of not only high school days, but back when I was “younger” (the term being relative) and fished a lot of tournaments-my bass fishing “Glory Days”. One such “Glory Day” was 19 years ago, February 2001.

The first stop of the Alabama Bass Trail Southern division kicked off at Lake Jordan. The Team of brothers, Noah and Cole Godwin, won with 20.33 pounds of Coosa River spotted bass. This is their second year fishing the ABT, and while they are not the first brothers to ever win, they are the youngest team to ever win. They are only 19 and 17 years old.
