A pair of fishing tournaments in April will bring boatloads of anglers and national attention to Pickwick and Wilson lakes.
A Crappie USA Trail tournament on April 11 and a King Kat Trail tournament on April 18 will attract anglers from several states. Both tournaments are sponsored by Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau and will be based out of Riverfront Park in Sheffield.

Bruce Springsteen’s song, “Glory Days”, is about looking back to high school days when we played sports, were young, and looked better.
The song reminded me, of not only high school days, but back when I was “younger” (the term being relative) and fished a lot of tournaments-my bass fishing “Glory Days”. One such “Glory Day” was 19 years ago, February 2001.
The first stop of the Alabama Bass Trail Southern division kicked off at Lake Jordan. The Team of brothers, Noah and Cole Godwin, won with 20.33 pounds of Coosa River spotted bass. This is their second year fishing the ABT, and while they are not the first brothers to ever win, they are the youngest team to ever win. They are only 19 and 17 years old.

The Bassmaster Classic runs Friday, March 6 through March 8. The Classic pros will be competing on Lake Guntersville, Guntersville, AL, and weighing-in at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, AL There are other scheduled things for you to see in Birmingham after attending the morning launch on Lake Guntersville. Might as well keep busy while the Classic contenders are fishing.

Sunday, February 23, 2020, two boys and a parent chaperone were reported missing after they did not return to the boat ramp or to their homes after a bass fishing tournament on Pickwick Lake the previous day. The two fifteen-year-olds and the 43-year-old “boat captain”, the father of one of the boys, reported as Kenneth Driver, were on Pickwick to fish a high school bass club “fruit jar” tournament while pre-fishing for an upcoming event. The club is from Obion County Central High School in Obion, TN.

February 22, 2020 Guntersville, AL– Tournament anglers had a very chilly start to the Alabama Bass Trail North Division from Lake Guntersville with temps below freezing at takeoff. The predictions at the meeting on Friday night were that someone would catch over 30 pounds. February and pre-spawn conditions typically mean big bags, but the weather conditions were not going make it easy.
