PICKWICK LAKE, Ala., April 4, 2019 – In 2006, the first national college angling tournament, the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship, drew more than 40 teams to Lake Lewisville, Texas. Now over 200 coed college teams are expected to participate in the 14th Annual BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops, held at Pickwick Lake, Alabama, May 23-24. Anglers will compete for a chance to win thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, as well as major points for the most prestigious title in all of college fishing.
Boat owners can now help support conservation efforts in Alabama when renewing their boat registration. First made available in 2018, the purchase of a distinctive registration identification sticker for their vessels provides boaters the opportunity to help financially support certain college and university programs as well as state parks, the Forever Wild program, and freshwater fisheries conservation in Alabama.

The city of Decatur, AL and the nearby industrial park have been the focus for PFOA and PFOS contamination into Wheeler Lake. Decatur experienced wastewater overflows from sewer systems recently in the midst of record rainfall in the southeastern U.S.. and specifically in North Alabama.
The Fayette County Public Fishing Lake will reopen on Thursday, March 28, 2019, after the completion of a renovation and restocking project by the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) that began in 2016. The 60-acre lake is located at 529 County Road 134 in Fayette, Ala.
During the renovation, the lake was drained and restocked with Florida largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, redear sunfish and channel catfish. In addition, golden shiners and threadfin shad were stocked as forage to enhance largemouth bass growth.
In 2018, more than 100 anglers reeled in an Angler Award for outstanding catches.
This award program recognizes those who catch fish that meet or exceed a specific weight or length for that particular species. This year, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) will introduce three new additional award categories recognizing even more angler catches!
