Shoals Youth Anglers took to the water of Pickwick Lake out of McFarland Park on September 17th. The tournament was the last one of the 2022 season as well as the annual picnic, additional awards, and prizes.
The weather was nice for fishing, but the ramp and boat traffic was heavy. There were three tournaments out of McFarland Park, Pickwick and two additional big tournaments to the west on the youth’s final event. That being said, there were still some good fish caught.
Kase Goodwin won first place in the youngest age division for his 9 lbs.., 2 oz. bag. Kase also took big fish honors for a 3 lb., 15 oz. smallmouth. In the 11 to 15-year-old group, Carson Townsen took the first place trophy with a total of 3 lbs.. even. A close one in the 16 to the 18-year-old division was won by Samuel Tucker by 11 oz. with 3 lbs.., 12 oz.
The age division trophy winners’ totals were: 22.4375 lbs.. for 10 and under; 10 lbs..; and 6.9375 for the 16 to 18.
The Shoals Youth Bassmasters had one angler reaching the age of 18 that will not be able to fish with the youth club next year- Fisher Heard will be 19. Fisher has fished with Shoals Youth Bassmasters for about 13 years. Fisher started he was about as
tall as the awards table and now he’s a head taller than the director Richard Laxon. He helps set up and tear down the banners, etc. at every tournament. Fisher will be attending the University of North Alabama and will be a member of the UNA Fishing Team.
