UPDATE 8-19-2025—Two Fishermen Killed On Pickwick Lake

A two-vessel crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, and resulted in a search for two missing boaters. The accident involved an aluminum fishing boat and a barge tugboat. UPDATE ON POST PAGE.

The names of the two men who lost their lives Saturday night after their aluminum fishing boat collided with a barge tugboat on Pickwick Lake near Riverside Park in Sheffield, Alabama.  The victims have been identified as William Michael Sandlin, 63, of Decatur, and Edison Kim Wallace, 66, of Savannah, Tennessee.

The aluminum fishing boat that collided with the barge tugboat on Pickwick Lake resulted in two fishermen on board being ejected from the boat into the water. The collision occurred in the vicinity of Riverside Park, Sheffield, Alabama, in Colbert County.

Neither fishermen survived the crash, and their bodies have been recovered from the lake. 

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division, along with ALEA’s Aviation Unit, assisted in the search and recovery efforts. The lead agency concerning this investigation is the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
